Subject: [ferrethealth] Another diarrhea question
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi everyone,

My ferret is 6 months old and his stools were perfect on Evo
feline/Zupreem/Totally Ferret. I decided to introduce Evo
ferret/Natural Gold (all transitions were done very slowly) but he
never adjusted to the mix. I tried to determine which was the culprit
by phasing one completely (For example, I phased out Natural Gold and
only used Evo ferret) but nothing changed. The diarrhea and birdspeed
pood has continued. I read that using more chicken-based kibble or
chicken baby food can help. So, I incorporated some Ziwipeak Venison
and Stella and Chewy's freeze-dried chicken and beef steaks into Evo
feline. His poop is looking much better but it is still not 100%. He
does get raw chicken gizzards and liver in his soup which always seems
to help firm up his stool a bit.

My question is can it be IBD? And if so, how did it start after just
trying to switch foods? Also, please let me know if I should take him
to the vet and what kind of treatment to request.

Thank you!

[Moderator's Note: rather than changing by manufacturer try eliminating by CONTENTS. Some ferrets have trouble with chicken intolerance, some with poultry intolerance, some with wider protein source intolerances. Others have been noted to have troubles with certain starch sources. Chicken seems to be most often mentioned when intolerances exist, but do know that not all ferrets with IBD have any food intolerances found.]
