Andrea,
A week ago I brought home my newly adopted Ohio rescue fuzzies to join
their biological sister, who I had adopted in December. I brought them
in today to the vet for a thorough check-up. One of them has cataracts
(as does the sister I adopted in December) but also has a paw that is
bent permanently inside - like a clenched fist. She walks essentially
on her knuckles. I wanted him to assess her paw as well, wondering
whether it was a birth deformity the shelter vet had suggested or the
result of an injury. This is the part that has relevance to your post -
he said that the only injury he 'commonly' sees in ferets is dislocated
elbows and that he's never seen anything like what my ferret has. It
may be that your fuzzy dislocated his elbow. You may consider having
your vet examine it anyway since apparently once it occurs, it can
recur.
As to my little one, besides cataracts, a bum paw (that is going to be
xrayed to determine why its like that) - she has a swollen mesenteric
lymph node that is quite tender on palpation and she has a very bad
canine, with exposed root and deteriorated pulp that will need to come
out.
I will do a separate post about her paw.

Then he started to walk away from it, and I noticed that he was walking
differently and got a better look at him. He was limping, and dragging
his right front leg and it was twisted. I went to go get the carrier to
bring him to the hosp, and in the seconds that it took me to do that,
when I got back to him, it mustve "popped" back into place. He could
walk on it and put pressure on it again. He's been fine since, running
and playing as usual. But is this something that he should be seen for?
Ive never had anything like this happen before, so I dont know if it was
a fluke thing, or if it will happen again? I'm assumming it popped out
of joint and then back in, as it all happened so fast. Any ideas or
input is greatly appreciated!
