Subject: [ferrethealth] Enlarged prostate X Intestinal pain - How can I tell?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello,

A few days ago I wrote about a 7yo male passing gas and apparently
having pain / disconform when defecating. He's now on medication for
the gas and the abdominal pain, as well as medication that helps
digestive movements, and his long-term friend Pred. Besides melatonin,
since Nov/2005.

Now he appears to defecate without pain, the gas is minumum (very
little noise), but I'm not sure if he is still having trouble to
urinate, which is something me and my vet were not considering at first.

He had a surgery 6 months ago and by then his remaining adrenal was
fine (the other one was removed in Oct/05), but much can happen is 6
months. He's scheduled to an ultrassound exam in 10 days, as it's hard
to find an ultrassound vet who knows ferrets around here and the only
one I know and trust won't be available sooner. Besides, I know
ultrassound is not a very reliable exam, so I believe his behavior
should be observed as a source for a diagnostic as well.

My question is: He is still "choosing" among litter corners, indicating
disconfort (urinating or defecating??), but it also could be just
something related to behavior. When he urinates, it's usually a large
amount, deep yellow (maybe indicating the urin has been retained for
too log?) but he leaves no drops.

Could all this picture indicate prostate enlargement? If so, which one
is the best for me to try, propecia or flutamide? Any other suggestion?

I sincerely thank you for helping me here.
