I've had 25 ferrets to date, 17 of which (so far) with adrenal
disease. I have never heard of giving daily steroids to treat the
illness. I have had surgeries done and I have treated with oral
melatonin and lupron. Lupron alone has been the most successful for my
ferrets (both males and females). Those that have had surgery have not
faired nearly as well, even where prostate issues are concerned. I've
had four with prostate involvement, one died post op, one suffered
three complete blockages after having both glands surgically removed,
and two (one with bilateral surgical removal, one with no surgery) had
the issues clear after being started on lupron. I have seen no
prostate issues in those treated with lupron alone (no surgeries).
