Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Update on my ferret Herb
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

When dealing with new-to-us medical issues it is difficult to understand
and absorb all the information our vets give us at the time of our
visit. I take notes and often find myself trying to absorb it for
days. My vet is very patient with me, thank goodness, because when we
work with something I've not dealt with before I call him frequently
with questions and ideas. My thought is that I need to know as much as
I can about the ailment so I can watch for signs and symptoms to tell
our vet about so he can provide the best treatment for the ferret.
Together we work out a treatment plan, which I believe is key in our
veterinarian/patient-health/client relationship.

As for inoperable adrenal, there may be the option of the 4 month lupron
depot that may last for up to 6 months with some ferrets. Doses of 1mg
instead of 2mg have been used and have produced positive results in
some ferrets so there may be less costly options than the once a month
lupron depot.

The cost your vet charges may be somewhat dependant on where your vet is
purchasing the lupron depot and added office charges. These 'might' be
negotiable. If a vet doubles the actual cost of the lupron depot and
charges for an office visit and the injection as well, it may make
treatment unaffordable for some clients.

When a client has financial difficulties with treatment costs, it can be
helpful to talk to your vet about lower cost treatments. The results
might surprise you.
