Your vet is EXACTLY RIGHT. Furosemide is a diuretic, meaning that it increases fluid loss.
With certain illnesses (usually heart disease) fluids accumulate in the body (ascites or
edema) and that can look like fat to people who don't know the difference but it is
completely different. If you give a normal animal (i.e. one who does not have ascites or
edema) diuretics you risk dehydration, kidney damage if too extreme, etc.

Furosemide if NOT for fat loss.
