Subject: [ferrethealth] lethargy enlarged spleen high protein/globulin (long)
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I was hoping someone might be able to offer some advice on my ferret Pika. He is VERY
lethargic which has progressed over the last two weeks from disinterest in playing to now
barely able to walk and just sleeping all day. He has been seen by a ferret knowledgable vet
in MA over the last two weeks since he has been ill, but it seems like we may be . He is being
fed watered down duk
soup & Carnevore care and is going to the bathroom. At his first appointment the vet noted
an enlarged spleen and blood work showed his fasting glucose to be normal-110, total blood
protein was 9.0 g/dl, with globulins at 6.5 g/dl and albumin at 2.5 g/dl. Other results that
were off were lipase was 544 U/L and Calcium and Phosperous were slightly low, at 7.9 and
5.2 mg/dl, respectively. The hematology report stated that there were no significant
abnormalities, but I noticed that the WBC was 4.7x103/ul which was low.
On ultrasound, they confirmed the enlarged spleen and the vet mentioned it was enlarged
more on one side. His right adrenal was enlarged as were the 2 abdominal lymphnodes. He
received a Lupron shot a week ago and some ulcer meds (Suralfate, metronidazole and
clavamox), in case the reason he was eating and his spleen was big was because of an ulcer
(he was grinding his teeth when I was trying to get him to eat). He showed no improvement
on these meds and is increasingly lethargic.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
