Subject: [ferrethealth] selamectin
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have used selamectin on my ferret. Is there a remote chance that the
product had an adverse effect? It may be pure conincident but appr. a
week later he became very ill. Now two weeks have passed since I
applied the medication and he is just holding on. Our vets have next
to no experience with ferrets, the one I took him to admitted he is
the first ferret he seen for a long time.

I know that selamectin should be used on healthy ferrets only. He
appeared to be healthy at the time of treatment, but a condition
unnoticed may have been made worse.

He is five years old and may have an adrenal problem, the emphasis is
on 'may'. Now he is losing weight, condition, is thirsty and must be
fingerfed to eat at all. Sleeps a lot but when awake he is alert.

Does anyone have any thoughts on that?
