Subject: [ferrethealth] update on Ohio rescue with bad paw
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Wanted to give an update on my earlier post - the x-rays indicated
that the condition is congenital. The ligaments/tendons between the
first and second joint of her digits appeared not to have developed
normally -ergo her paw is permanently bent at a 90 degree angle.

As to the rest of her health, her canine had abscessed and the gums
are severely infected. As well there were no teeth left on the upper
jaw behind the extracted canine. The vet speculates that they fell
out over time due to the gum infection. Her head area was x-rayed to
make sure she didn't have any infection in the bone, which
fortunately she did not. She is on a treatment course of Clavamox to
clear up the infection and the vet left a small area open so that the
infection can continue to drain. He cleaned and scaled the remaining
teeth, which he says were pretty bad as well. He feels optimistic
that they can be saved.

She is resting comfortably and her sister, the fuzzy I adopted
earlier in December is tending her and hasn't left her side.
