Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: long term effects of A/D?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Hi,
I have posted on the FHL several times about my 4 year-old sprite,
who has had on/off again yellow stool and a chronically swollen
mesenteric lymph node. She has undergone numerous tests i.e.,
several stool analyses, aspirate biopsy, blood work, ultrasound,
etc. To date there is no conclusive diagnosis. In the interim she
had been losing weight and in general not doing well. I started
supplementing her diet of Innova EVO Ferret with Hills A/D.
Gradually she gained weight, her stools have normalized and she is
her energetic self. She is not in any way overweight - weighing just
under a pound and a half. She still has the swollen mesenteric lymph
node but it appears to have shrunk.
I am wondering whether there are any deleterious effects of feeding
her the A/D long-term? I know that ordinarily it is not meant to be
long-term. She will occasionally munch on a kibble or two of the
Innova EVO but definitely her main meal is now the A/D. I have tried
mixing the teeniest amount of ground kibble into the A/D or even
Innova EVO 95% Duck. But as soon as there's even a microgram of
something else in her food she refuses to eat it. She even turns
her nose up if I add a drop of Ferretone into the food! I am familiar
with all the strategies to get them to eat something.
Bottom line - is it okay to feed her the A/D as long as she continues
to thrive on it?
Thank you.
Tressie
