Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Adrenal ferret/2 vets
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi-
I, too would be interested in hearing the medical, physiological explanation
at how prednisone, at very low doses, does anything for adrenal disease --
and how this vet PROVES that it is working: are they doing the UTenn panel
before, during, and after therapy? (a good question for you to ask).

I hope the practice is being grilled closely by many people about such an
unconventional use of a VERY STRONG drug that should NEVER be used
inappropriately.

Bottom line -- in my opinion -- ANY dose of prednisone, whether a drop or a
gallon -- does NOTHING to treat adrenal disease. And I hope this practice
does not see a lot of adrenal ferrets as it sounds they are doing a significant
disservice to the ferret population. I'd be happy to speak to this vet
anyday on this topic. And, that veterinarian should be willing to speak to you
on the phone to answer any questions. You may have to pay for a telephone
consult fee -- but you shouldn't have to wait 2 weeks to get the answer to your
questions.

My advice - RUN, don't walk, away from this proposed therapy.

Just FWIW.

Sandra Mitchell, DVM, DABVP
