Regarding this post from Dr. Ruth, I am wondering what the typical usage of Prednisolone is in treating IBD.
We currently have one of our ferrets (Trinny) on 0.33 ml daily of 15 mg/ 5 ml Prednisolone to treat what our vet and I believe is IBD. She was on 0.33 ml twice daily for a couple of weeks, but with some diet change (to more Gerber's stage 2 turkey baby food) we have reduced her Prednisolone dosage, per the vet's suggestion. We are trying to wean her off the Pred all together within the next couple of weeks, with the goal of seeing if we can effectively manage the IBD with diet only (including some supplementation of acidophilus and slippery elm bark powder).
My question is: With IBD, if Prednisolone is needed to keep the disease in check, what are the possible long-term effects, and what would the typical minimum dosage be to keep the disease in check? I have not had to deal with IBD before now, so I have no personal experience to go on.
Thanks,
Jeff

Steroids have their place. And I have a number of ferrets on steroids for
treatment of insulinoma, lymphoma and inflammatory bowel disease (and the
occasional Addisonian).
