Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: lethargy enlarged spleen high protein/globulin (long)
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I wanted to let anyone who read my original post concerning my ferret Pika, with uneven
enlargement of the spleen, enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes, high blood protein, high
globulins and extreme lethargy and in increasing difficulty in moving around, that he passed
away this Monday evening. The first symptom he demonstrated was being less active and
then this progressed with hind-end weakness and increased lethargy. The course of disease
was just over 2 weeks and before this was active and playful. He was only 3.5 yo and the vets
he saw at two major vet hospitals were unable to diagnose anything substantial in this short
time. They mentioned a quickly progressing lymphoma, another cancer that may have
metastasized to the brain, an infection that spread to the CNS, ADV or DIM, because of the
muscle weakness. We are having his partner tested for ADV tomorrow and she's getting
blood work and an ultrasound. I just wanted to update you all in case any of you see these
symptoms in your ferrets, you may have a better idea of how serious it may be before it's too
late. Special thanks to Sukie and the MaFF for their great advice.
