People can bring it in on their clothing and shoes , too.

I know that one problem which has happened here in
NJ in the past is the disease either being brought in by
store patrons or their dogs.

Meanwhile most pet stores DO NOT provide any additional
vaccines so the kits tend to having never have had any vaccines
beyond the first of the set (the exception -- until they chose
to stop selling ferrets -- was PetSmart which sold the ferrets
at over 12 weeks of age with the full Canine Distemper series
and the IMRAB 3 Rabies Vaccine.

Additionally, many stores misrepresent that initial kit distemper
vaccine as meaning that the ferrets are fully vaccinated.
