Oh, no question. For Petco and the other shops in the Detroit area, it is extremely RARE to find a ferret for sale in a pet shop that has had any vaccinations past the one received while at Marshall Farms (and aren't they too young to receive any benefit from that one anyway? Kits are in the store at 6 weeks old at most and they've already stopped at a brokerage for a stay on their way from Marshall Farms). So I definitely go on the assumption for most ferrets in pet shops around here that they are NOT protected and therefore could indeed pick up distemper while in the shop, rather than suspect a problem with the factory or way-station stop on the way to the pet shop.

People can bring it in on their clothing and shoes , too.

I know that one problem which has happened here in
NJ in the past is the disease either being brought in by
store patrons or their dogs.

Meanwhile most pet stores DO NOT provide any additional
vaccines so the kits tend to having never have had any vaccines
beyond the first
