The Distemper shot you gave to your ferrets is a vaccine that protects against Canine Distemper, a deadly disease that will kill your ferrets. It is not a vaccine that alters their mood or activity level. The effect you saw in your ferret that became lethargic was an adverse reaction to the vaccine. That reaction was life threatening and it was a good thing you were still at the Vet's office.
Ferrets typically are very active for about two hours after being let out of their cages. After that they seek dark places to nap for three or four hours then the cycle starts all over again. It is bedlam and mayhem here when I let our eighteen out of their cages in the morning. Into everything then after about two hours it gets very quiet. They all found their favorite napping places. What you are seeing with your ferts is typical.
Might want to pick up a copy of the book, Ferrets for Dummies, at your local bookstore. It covers a lot of information on the care and what to look for if your ferrets get sick.
