Subject: [ferrethealth] bad poo + weightloss

Hello:
Before I say more, I must admit to feeding my ferret catfood. One day
he got into kitty's food and seemed to really like it. So I did some
research on websites such as this and found that most opinions were
that it would most likely be ok as long as the catfood was high in
protein. Some even recommended kitten food due to the tendency of
higher crude protein content. So I started to feed my ferret catfood.
Initially, I gave him "The Good Life Recipe" catfood. He took to it
well and his poops were good. He appeared healthy and happy for about
3-4 weeks. Then I decided to try a "Maxximum" kitten food. About a
week later, I noticed a significant diminishing in the size of his
poo. It was now small and grainy. Another week has gone by and I am
noticing weightloss. I checked his poo today and it was liquid and a
dark green color.
I'm hoping it is the food and am going to start feeding him good
ferret food again immediately. I'm worried about him. He is only
about a year old. He was already sort of a runt in comparison to his
peers at the pet store, but he has lost enough weight for me to
notice even on his tiny frame. I'm scared for him. My wife and I love
him dearly. Please say that it's a diet problem and not something
more serious.
