It might be distemper.

It might be a serious respiratory infection.

One thing it is NOT is a cold. Colds are caused by rhinoviruses
and ferrets do not get rhinoviruses. They get bacterial sinus
infections, influenza, and pneumonia, but they don't get colds.
Don't take my word for that: read past posts in the archives
from Dr. Bruce Williams who is a ferret expert veterinary pathologist
so exactly the right type of specialist to know that topic fully.

What state are you in? If in NJ the same gov't branch that you
have your permit from, and your state legislator's office can give
you the address where you can report this if they don't test and
treat.
