Subject: [ferrethealth] coccidia -- elimination in environment
I understand that the eggs are tenacious difficult to kill. Is there a
time limit on how long they survive outside the body of the ferret.
What advice can you gove about cleaning up an infected environmanet?
I have heard that these oocytes don't die when treated w disinfectants,
but that a 10% solution of ammonioa does the job.
I have also heard that no substance kills them, and they must be
mechanically obliterated.
We have now kept our ferrets out of their tunnel system, which is
floored w outdoor/indoor carpet, for about two weeks. Most of the
tunnel system is outdoors and it is constructed of wire mesh, so gets
air and light.
Any info or advice about soil that is infected?
