Subject: [ferrethealth] Contacts needed for Ethiopian vet in US vet clinics and labs
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Hello FHL--
Our veterinarian and I want to start a diagnostic lab and then a
modern vet clinic here in Ethiopia.
There are none of either in the country -- which means no blood,
stool, skin, etc testing is available. Also no xray, and no
ultrasound. I have never seen a microscope or a computer in the
clinics I have visited.
Our vet is experienced and skilled, but can you imagine functioning
under these conditions?
He would like to spend 3 - 4 weeks visiting the US observing in
modern clinics, in-house labs, and possibly in commercial labs.
He's a very nice person, a good communicator, skilled, and
intuitive. He'd be happy to either stay out of the way or help with
the work -- for example, he could give a hand when one of a vet's
staff is on vacation.
His primary paractice is, and will continue to be, w cats and dogs
and some large animals, so he wants to see how they are treated and
diagnosed. However, he also wants to learn much more about ferrets --
diagnosis, treatment (including surgery), -- all the strange little
ways that they have!
If you can offer an invitation to him, we would be very grateful.
And, if you can offer it soon, it would help him to get his visa to
the US. He would add the invitations to his application. The US
Embassy here is notorious for denying visas, and such invitations
and a clear schedule for visits would be a great help.
He would be in Massachusetts in early June, and in California and
Oregon in June and possibly early July, but he could visit elsewhere
as well.
FYI, our plan is to establish a diagnostic lab w/these functions:
o Hematology
o Parasitology
o Biochemistry
o Bacteriolgy
o Xray and ultrasound
