I had a ferret a few years ago who was on pediaprednisone and she went
diabetic from the meds. She was the first case of diabetes in a ferret
that my vet had treated. I don't recall exactly how high her BG was
but I tested her urine with the urine strips daily and they read in the
worst range possible for many days. We stopped the pediapred and
started her on insulin and I gave it to her 3 times a day for several
weeks and her BG eventually came back to normal range and stayed there.
I also fed her a diabetic cat food. Science Diet MD, if memory serves.
I don't recall if we gave her fluids or not. So don't give up yet,
perhaps insulin and fluids will help your ferret.
Ann,
In memory of my Casey.
