I don't know if it's toxic but I do think it can cause problems
depending on just what your ferret's ailment is.
I just lost a 4 yo hob less than a month after his melatonin implant.
Right after the implant he crashed and it took me a week to get him
to come around to somewhat normal. Then all his lymph nodes became
enlarged. To make a long story short, on his post all his organs had
lympho.
I did find a write up on human lymphomas and there are certain types
that are aggravated by melatonin.
