Subject: [ferrethealth] adrenal disease and shedding problems
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
G'day,
My ferret, male, succumbed to adrenal disease showing the classical
signs of the disorder except dysuria.
My question:
Is it possible that his reluctance to shed his winter coat might
have been an early sign of the disease? Even though I was reassured
at the time that this is nothing to worry about alarm clocks were
ringing. Surely shedding is controlled by hormones.
He lived by a natural day/night cycle. But when he started to shed
in January (Australia)it was dramatic, no sign of regrowth, thin
skin, his body couldn't retain fluid. He died 3rd May near naked at
a time when all other ferrets had their thick winter coats.
Nowhere have I read that reluctance to shed could be connected with
adrenal disease. I'm puzzled.
REgards,
Ben
