It pays to use the links and look in the EXCELLENT
and EASILY USED separate FHL Archives which can
be linked to directly from the FHL homepage in a
range of places and which Pam and Eric Sessoms
so kindly make available.
Direct address
http://ferrethealth.org/archive/
Some possible causes include:
injury or mechanical irritation (and some of these
could cause infection)
adrenal neoplasia
apocrine cysts or tumors
(The above are the most likely things for the vet
to check for first.)
mastitis is something that is added usually when a
ferret is whole, esp. after giving birth
If I recall right there are some types of mammary
malignancies that are seen pretty often in Black
Footed Ferrets but are extremely rare in domestic
ferret.

http://ferrethealth.org/archive/SG427

There are over 70 posts that come up for the search word
nipple
there. The Archives are a TREASURE!
BTW, Pam is one of the FHL Moderators, too.
Like the wonderful, wonderful veterinarian, vet tech, and
other knowledgeable and expert members of the FHL,
the FHL moderators provide and have provided years of
valuable work to keep the FHL and the FHL Archives a
great place to learn, so a tip of the hat and big thank to
my fellow FHL Moderators who are also such marvelous
people and so generous of their time given to help others
(including me):
Julie Fossa, Patty Kaczorowski, Troy Lynn Eckart, Pam
Sessoms, and of course Dr. Bruce Williams (whose schedule
has become dependent on the demands of the wars currently
happening so he is on less often due to those).
