Subject: [ferrethealth] a poisoning situation
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Sighing. I just had to find some info for someone whose ferret was in an avoidable
situation.

So, in case knowing this might protect another ferret:

Ref:
Smith, R. A. 1988. Coma in a ferret after ingestion of cannabis. Vet. Hum. Toxicol., 30:

QUOTE
Symptoms in members of Carnivora who have ingested Cannabis (dose dependent):
hyperactivity, vomiting, somnolence, staggering, and glazed eyes. In another case, in
Edmonton, a pet ferret ingested the plant and became comatose after experiencing
sneezing bouts and ataxia

from:
http://www.scib.gc.ca/pls/pp/ppack.info?p_psn=222&p_type=all&p_sci=sci&p_x=px

which also includes this info on cannabis ingestion by members of Carnivora:

The person can referred to Animal Poison Control. In the U.S. the numbers are

ASPCA Animal Poison Control:

Angell Memorial's ASPCA Poison Control:

If anyone misplaces the APCC URLs they are also in the FHL Archives (as are the phone
numbers) and in my list of ferret links:
