Subject: [ferrethealth] oddball sleep schedule changes/encouraging wake up times
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Dear list,
I'm new here but I think my partner has posted here before. We are
first time ferret owners who adopted a lovely four year old ferret
from the local rescue organization Cascade Ferret Network.

I have a question regarding sleep schedules and what is 'normal.' For
the almost 6 months that we've had Blackberry, she's been up at 6:30am
and 8:30pm like CLOCKWORK. She's been so predictable and well behaved
that we sometimes leave her habitat door open (danger areas are
cordoned off)- she often comes into bed to wake us up with face licking!

Recently, her schedule changed to 3am, and sometime around human lunch
time/midday (when we are both at work). Needless to say this has
resulted in middle-of-the-night wake up calls/face licking, and
probably some disappointment for her when we can't make it home for
lunch.

It seems odd and I can't seem to get her to be happy to wake and play
at her old times. She acts grumpy, lethargic, etc. (some of the grumps
are likely adrenal-related too according to our vet.)

Recent variables:
- Onset of adrenal gland disease and first Lupron shot earlier this month
- Abrupt weather changes in our region (like rainy, 55 one day, 95 and
humid the next)
- introduction to outdoor activities (mega excitement for walks seems
to tire her out at odd intervals)
- Getting light much earlier and staying light later

If anyone has insight about ferret schedule stability-- and
encouraging a shift back to old wake/play times-- that is so appreciated!

Thanks!
