Subject: [ferrethealth] New adopting a pair
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi, I wanted to ask advice. Is there anyone who lives in Missouri?
In my immediate area there are no vets that know about ferrets as
there are none. It is not that they are not allowed but rather we are
thick in rabbit pet area. I live in Henry county and would love
advice on a good vet that is not TOO far away. So far I know a good
office in Kansas city but that is almost 2 hours away.

Another question I have. One of the girls has Adrenal disease(?) and
is currently being treated with melatonin, I have read online that it
has been found as a good option for those that can not be opporated on
but is it true? I know once I have a vet for sure they will be able
to tell me, but wondered if anyone here knows.

Final question for now. They were pulled from a home that had them in
a tiny cage that was cleaned maybe monthly (I know they need it done
daily!) and they were fed dog food! The rescue feeds them a blend of
Chicken Soup Cat food, some brand of kitten food and an unspecified
brand of ferret food with occassional canned cat food. I'm wanting to
know what would be better for the girls. They are 4-5 years old.

They are current on shots and license is not required in my town, only
the rabies shot.

These are the questions most important to me at this time. I look
forward to the answers!

Kathy and the unnamed duo.
