Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Bloody stools after adrenal surgery
To: "FHL" <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>
I wrote earlier about the jill (who had adrenal surgery yesterday) passing
blood. I've been to the vets, my vet took blood from 2 of my ferrets (9 ml
from one, 6 ml from the other for later if needed) and injected 9 ml into
the jill's abdomen. What I know now is that there was some bleeding during
the surgery but I don't think there was much. The jill didn't want to eat
yesterday or today and then started passing bloody stools or should I say
the stools were just blood. My vet seems to think it has to do with the
excess oestrogen/ bone marrow suppression and also mentioned DIC (the jill
did have a swollen vulva). The jill has had fluids throughout the day and
she ate some liquid recovery diet after the blood transfusion. She had
metocloperamide because she vomited when she had some gas for the
transfusion, she also had prednisolone injected into the muscle of both back
legs. She looked slightly better when I left but again any help is very
much appreciated, her owner is distraught and blames herself for deciding
for the surgery because the jill was fine before surgery.
Thank you, Sukie, for your reply as well.
