Why wouldn't they let you be with your little guy during the gas
proceedure? I would never let them take my ferret to the back room
to euthanize. Every single one of mine was done in front of me, with
me holding them to the very end.

I have even been allowed back into the operating room to watch an
adrenal surgery or two. I was curious and asked and my vet
approved. He does a great job. He has done about 8 surgeries for
me.

He has had me back to watch a few teeth cleanings, too. And gas is
used for that also. Not sure what their reasoning would be to not
let you back to the 'gas' area. There is no big mystery about it, or
danger that I know of.
