I just had to help my first little one along in October. My vet let me
have a few minutes just me and my little boy....then, while I was
holding him, my vet came back in and gave him a shot. He didn't even
know he had gotten the shot although he was very aware of what was going
on around him - he simply laid in my arms while I talked to him and held
him and very peacefully, he drifted off to sleep.

I just prefer to have them with me when they have to leave...I've never
had to do anything like that before, so I had no idea what to expect. I
can't even begin to tell you how peaceful it was when he left me...being
with him when he left, him knowing I was with him, and being able to see
how peaceful he was when he went is the ONLY thing that has comforted me
in losing him...I can't imagine doing it any other way.
