Hi Amanda,

I would say the opposite - that Izzy likes your mom very much and
thinks of her as a playmate. Clearly in her mind you are the Alpha -
and your mom is a playmate. I would suggest educating your mom on what
is normal ferret play behaviour, and educating Izzy not to nip
playfully at your mom. Since she is not a fear biter (i.e., doesn't
bite you) your mom can train her not to nip at her by communicating to
her that nipping is unacceptable behaviour. I am sure others will give
you good suggestions on how to do this, my suggestion is that when Izzy
nips, simply grabbing her immediately, firmly, but gently BY THE SCRUFF
while saying "NO" emphatically works very well. Key is consistency.
It should be done every time she nips. Ankles are a bit more
challenging, I make a point not to expose my ankles, feet or toes
because even my most well behaved and gentlest of ferrets can't resist
the tempatation to nip at all that exposed skin moving around at floor
level.

Good Luck!

Tressie
