Please keep in mind that with insulinoma, there is no rhyme/reason to
when low blood glucose occurs...so one "normal" reading at the vet
doesn't rule out insulinoma entirely. Having seizures is a symptom of
dangerously low blood glucose, among other things.
The symptoms you describe, other than the seizures, are exactly what
my Sonny had, and he definitely has insulinoma. Looking back, I know
I missed his symptoms because I was looking for a normal pattern to
his spaciness/staggering etc. The symptoms would just stop for a
while - sometimes for weeks at a time - so I attributed his lethargy
to old age. I was wrong. :(
Changing her food may actually be helping to control her symptoms, if
you changed to one with a much higher protein content. The carb
content of most kibble causes a spike in insulin production - exactly
what she doesn't need if she has insulinoma. I'm not saying it's
impossible that some tainted food made her sick. I'm just offering a
reason for why a change to a higher quality food may be helping to
control her insulinoma symptoms, if that's what she has.
Your Daisy in much younger than my 8 year old boy, but that doesn't
preclude her from the disease. Please keep a close eye on her, and
try to get her blood glucose test done when she's NOT doing well, if
possible. (I use a glucose monitor at home, so I'm not endangering
Sonny by trying to get him to the vet while he's having an insulin
reaction.) If it's still normal THEN, your vet will probably rule out
insulinoma.
Sending positive thoughts for Daisy's health,
- Lisa
