Hi Lucie/ everybody

My 8 year old Bobby has had chronic diarrhoea, it got quite bad a year ago
and I started adding slippery elm and also oat bran to his meat. This
controlled the diarrhoea for quite some time. He only eats soft food now,
only his meat, and even though I clean his teeth after every meal, he has
developed tartar and his mouth smells. He can't have a dental because he
has a bad heart murmur, he had 1 short anaesthetic when he had a bad skin
tumour taken off and had problems then so can't have a long anaesthetic for
a dental. So once a month I put him on Clavamox to help keep his mouth as
healthy as possible. The smell goes, his mouth looks healthy, even the
tartar looks clean once he's been on antibiotics for a few days. But his
mouth quickly deteriorates and I wish I could just keep him on antibiotics
for his mouth.

But what I also noticed is that his diarrhoea is gone when he is on
antibiotics. He has normal stools and a normal *amount* of stools. At the
moment he is off antibiotics and he has some normal stools but also some
very runny ones and he frequently needs the toilet. So I'm wondering what
dose of Amoxi you're giving? You said 0.33 ml but what is the strength, how
many mg/ml are in the liquid?

I'd also like to hear from other people who have had ferrets on antibiotics
for "extended periods of time". Is there any downside to it other than that
the antibiotic could or will become ineffective (which would be bad of
course).

Bobby also has insulinoma and is on 0.5 mg of pred bid. The pred isn't
helping the diarrhoea unless of course the diarrhoea would be even worse if
he wasn't on pred.
