Susan,
Aw, the old ferret death sleep. Have had a few that did that. Not aware that it is a sign of an illness. Personally I attribute it to their being so at peace and trusting of their surroundings that they are oblivious to the surroundings. Doesn't matter if the ferret is deaf or not.

Don't know how many times my wife had awaken me from my sleep after working all night just to say, so and so is dead. I cannot get them to wake up. Standard question was, are they cold and stiff? If yes, dead. If warm, just sleeping. Stroke their head and ears and they will wake up.

I know that this type of sleep is disconserting, but I can offer no scientific reason for it. Maybe another group member might have a lead on it. Or you might check the archives.

I have a 7 month old deaf blaze ferret, I have noticed she sleeps real
hard and its relly hard for her to wake up. i have took her to the vet
for a check up and the dr says she is as healthy as can be so i dont
know, she yesterday i went to wake her and i relly thought she had
died cause it took me several mins to finaly get her awake enough to
have her out for her duck soup and play time for 4 hours. can someone
hel-p me out on ferret death sleep and why they do that soo much,
Slinky does this aloot and i wonder if its cause of her deafness or if
something just might be wrong with her. she is a very active little
girl when shes awake. Thank you Susan
