Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Ferret death sleep

This is one of those things, like recognizing creeping baldness on the tail
(adrenal disease), that every ferret owner eventually comes in contact with.
We all get scared out of our minds at first. Ferrets do have a tendency to
sleep so deeply that they get completely limp and even shaking them hard
will not wake them up.

The simplest test is to put your ear up to the ferret's chest and listen for
his or her heart beating. I had my then-girlfriend's frightened daughter do
that over the phone with our Slinky and she felt so silly afterwards for
thinking Slinky was dead that she started laughing. :)
