Yes, over-population due to a massive bloom of an invading bacterium
can cause other bacteria to crash and then the invading one may crash
and then over populate repeatedly if conditions are not quite right and
that process can repeat itself till the invader dies off. (Something I learned
from an infectious disease expert back when I worked and shared (not
necessarily good things always) with chimps.)
