Subject: [ferrethealth] How to deal with possible heart worm exposure?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
A few days ago I rescued a intact male ferret. He is 1 & =BD years old.
A sweet guy. And as to often happens , he was kept in very poor
conditions. I live in Mississippi so Heart worm is pretty common here.
He was being kept out side in a small rabbit cage. On top of all the
typical things that need to done and looked at to bring him to full
health, I am very worried about the `possible' exposure to Heart Worm.
I read about how testing is subject to false negatives. I also read at
Miami ferret. Org about a treatment/prevention. My question is this;
Assuming he may have been exposed, not knowing how long ago for
certain; what would this ( ProHeart) preventative do if we just went
ahead and administered it?=20

Thanks for any help
