Subject: [ferrethealth] Lethargic ferret
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have only had this ferret (dook) for a couple of weeks, so dont know
any history. I have had him castrated and cleaned him up. He seams
like a very laid back ferret, has been on a harness and on the garden etc.
2 days ago I noticed he wasnt coming out of his sleeping quarters, so
took a look at him. He was warm and very lethargic. As it was the
hottest day we have had, I thought he was suffering from heatstroke
and treat him accordingly, then took him to the vet. His temp was a
little high at 103 and she gave him an injection to lower that and
baytril incase of infection, also baytril to be given orally. He is
eating, drinking, going in his litter, but still very lethargic.
Should "heatstroke" last this long or did he get heatstroke because he
was poorly to start with and too lethargic to get to his water. can
anyone give me any advice. I will be taking him to vets again tomorrow
if he is no better, but she is not that ferret knowledgable. I dont
think there are any ferret vets in my area..
