My suggestions:
You may be dealing with cardioma (a cardiac tumor causing all of the symptoms, rare but
we've had one with that) or even with some other things. One possibility if that is the
thymus which is enlarged is JL (Juvenile Lymphoma) which usually shows up under the age
of 2 years but on rare occasion appears in an older ferret

So....

1. Have a chest ULTRASOUND done

2. Have your vet consult with a veterinary cardiologist who is used to helping ferrets. Info
on one can be found in the FHL Files (but it is a bit old) and certainly veterinary universities
around the country have some.

Depending on what is behind the symptoms your vet's suggestion may be right or may be
wrong, so try the other imaging approach and a cardiac specialist, because right now you
need more information and a less tentative diagnosis.
