Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Grainy Diarrhea

I don't think you want to tell anyone not to be too concerned about
ECE. I went through it a number of years ago, and though everyone
did recover, it required a good bit of supportive care. Also, you
would not want to let any of your ferrets come in contact with any
other ferrets for a minimum of 6-8 months. ECE is very contagious.

Though the younger ones are the most successful at recovering, they
may still need suportive care. The excessive diarrhea can quickly
cause dehydration. They don't eat as they should and can lose too
much weight. Assisted feeding may be necessary. Those who are sick
should probably be separated from the ones showing no symptoms.
Implying that it should be basically ignored is not in the best
interest of the ferrets in the home.

I don't think that is at all what the posters meant, but on rereading a few times
times one can be read several ways, including that way. Just one of the
drawbacks of email: some things can be read in several ways even when the
best of intentions were involved.]
