Subject: [ferrethealth] Human-ferret interaction
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi everyone,
I'm here with a typical story of "ferret math"; started with 2,
adopted 3 more, 1 passed away, were given 4 more, so on and so forth.
From 2003-present, we have had a grand total of 11 fuzzies who
thankfully all got along well and played, ate, slept and did
everything else with one another. But of course since we adopted most
of them in their senior years, it wasn't long before we were facing a
lot of medical issues and a lot of losses.

We have just two fuzzies now, Bailey (age 5) and Linus (age 2), and
ferret time just seems so lonely now. I've noticed that it's seems
like over the years we've not only lost ferrets, but the ferrets
still with us have lost something among each other. And it's because
it's not a full house anymore. They have less partners to interact
with while they're in their cages and during their out-of-cage time,
and they just seem so bored. Before, they mostly kept themselves
occupied and were only interested in interacting with us part of the
time. More and more often they aren't interested in the toys and
obstacles and things to mess in we give them, and we find them
sitting expectantly at our feet.

This morning I was dragging a sock ball around and after Linus
tackled it a couple of times, he looked at me and heaved a sigh that
I sure would've translated into "Humans are so boring!" and ran off.

I was aware that when we had only one or two ferrets around, they
would become much much more dependant on us for play, but I'm at a
loss for new playthings to give them and such. What can I do to
interact with them more and to keep them active and entertained?

Any tips appreciated.
Thanks,
Emily and they boys.
