Ferrets are obligate carnivores, which means they
lack the ability to digest the plant foods you have mentioned.
This means that the ones that are hard can cause blockages.
Raisins in too high amounts (and it not take many) have caused
acute kidney failure in ferrets, dogs and cats, so while the tiny
amounts used for flavoring in some foods are probably safe
there is no good reason to add more.
Since they pass plant foods through pretty fast that reduces
the amount of sugar they uptake from fruits which remain
largely whole compared to how much we can get from those
same fruits, but they still don't need sticky sweets which may
stick to their teeth at the gum lines or between teeth or cusps,
and they don't need sugary treats where there are healthier
options like cooked egg yolk, pieces of cooked meat, fats,
fish oil (not cod liver oil), etc.
So, a smile to your mom for her reading and one to you for
loving your ferrets enough to ask. I think you probably made
many people here glad that you are careful to do so. (and
apologies if i sound like too much of an old fart)
