We had a time around here when the water would regularly be bad
and we found that the ferrets refused the contaminated water. In
fact, we would not use the local water when they refused it, and
that way avoided some exposures hours before the announcements.
Our vet at that time said that dogs and ferrets are quite good at
knowing what water to avoid, but that cats are not.
