I am not a vet, but I've had experience with this set of symptoms. The
black stool indicates bleeding in the forward part of the digestive
system, in other words stomach ulcers. He needs to be on amoxicillin,
Clarirthromicin (Biaxin) and Carafate. Give the carafate and wait a half
hour before giving the other two meds or food. Give the Amoxicillin and
Biaxin 3 times a day with the carafate 1/2 hour before. Give carafate
1/2 hour before each feeding. You should find a vet who knows this and
ask him to set the dosage for each of the drugs.
