BIngo!
I am just catching up after being away for family needs and my first thought was also
ulcers. It felt good to come upon Russ's answer

Now, one thing to know about ulcers if that they are more likely when a ferret has some
other medical problem going on which is not well enough controlled. That may be an
adrenal growth, or insulinoma 0r it's OPPOSITE problem diabetes, or a range of other
things. It makes sense to know the symptoms, what they can mean, and to test when
possible.

The original poster may want to either help the current vet learn by providing ferret vet
texts or ferret vet DVDs, or may want to seek someone who has studied ferrets because
not all vets have.

For help on that regard see:

You need a vet who knows how to treat ulcers in ferrets and how to look for and treat the
problems which increase the risk of ulcers in ferrets.
