To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I'm very sorry to here you're little one is sick. I essentially dealt
with these EXACT same issues in March of this year - every test we did
came back normal or inconclusive - we also had the ascites cytology
done which had nothing abnormal in the way of ascites (no large amount
of white blood cells). We did do the ultrasound (and the x-ray) and
there was no definitive answer from that. We did not opt for
exploratory surgery as there was so much ascites and he was so weak
that we were afraid he wouldn't make it. In hindsight I wish that we
had so that I would have had a definite answer, because today we still
don't know for sure that it was lymphoma that he contracted. Although
he did pass away, we are now dealing with issues about getting other
ferrets. Since we don't know what he passed away from (it may also
have been ECE or FIP) we therefore don't know what our remaining
ferret was exposed to, and although she is still in good health we
have fears about going through this ordeal again with another fuzzy
(our boy was only 1 year old).
I know what a rough decision this is and I hope the best for your fuzzy.
Sincerely
Joanna & Dipsy
