Subject: [ferrethealth] Re:Help with sudden lump w/ peculiar smell
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Most definitely the lump could be related to the lupron injection!

We have given over 200 lupron injections here at Zoo`s Ferret
Sanctuary, and although it is not "everyday" common, we have seen
the "lump" probably 20-30 times. The 4 monther is given in the scruff-
-and a lump can appear there. (It is temporary.)

One of our vet books here, cautions the practitioner against removing
the lump--hence they would be removing the depot.

If it is depot-related, it will dissapate, over the next couple/few
months.

I am not certain what you are smelling--but often the adrenal babies
themselves, have a peculiar odor about them.In fact, I can often
smell adrenal disease before symptoms appear! We have had calls from
people who even seemed to be ALLERGIC to the adrenal ones!I have
noticed the smell subsides, as the depot takes effect.I suppose the
odor could be hormone-related (Sukie?? any input here???)

In our experience, the effects of the depot lasted longer in the ones
who developed a lump--so it`s a GOOD thing!

(You may also see a round, slightly orangey-yellowy-gold-ish
discoloration at the injection site in the light colored
babies.Usually, it`s between nickel-size & quarter size. It is
harmless.)

Hope this helps.

Love, Zoo
