Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Adrenal disease

Hi, I have a 3 year old female who was just diagnosed with Adrenal disease - on the Right side. My vet said that if it was the Left gland, he would opt to do Lupron injections until it got to a point that Lupron & Melatonin wasnt working (meaning the side effects werent controlled or gland too enlarged...), then do surgery at that point. But he said, since it is the rightside gland - which is near/attached to the Vena Cava - that it is not good to wait to remove that gland since the longer we wait, the more likely it will attach itself more or wrap itself around the vena cava - making surgery to remove the gland all the more difficult.

BUT I wouldnt advise doing this surgery if your vet does not feel comfortable doing it. I would do what you are doing in getting the 2nd and 3rd opinions... but I would just make sure that they are experienced in doing right gland surgery. Good luck with your little one.

In Israel there are only 3 vets experienced with ferrets.
One of them is our vet. Like I said, he doesn't recommend surgery
(even though my ferret is in good health and her blood test were ok).
I'm going to the other 2 vets next week, to hear a second and third
opinion.
Maybe some of you has a ferret with RIGHT gland enlarged?
