You can find quite a few hairball posts in the archives - just seach
the database using hairball as the key word.

The best is anything vaseline based, so laxatone, ferretlax, etc. Or
just plain white petroleum vaseline. A little bit daily during
shedding times ( changes of season usually) and perhaps a little more
-like maybe an inch of it daily if suspect a hairball. You want white
petroleum jelly though, not the yellow. Or just buy the ferretlax
type product- it works and is already flavored,etc.

Butter I have never heard of, I wouldn't use it.
