Thanks, Sukie. Since things work well for us the way we do things
now, I guess I'll continue. I am currently using a tea tree oil-based
cleaner, one that I ended up having to buy when my regular cleaner ran
out. I put it in a syringe and warm it in a cup of hot water. They
don't especially like it but have learned that they get a treat of
NutriCal during the process of nail clipping and ear cleaning.
If ear cleaning turns out not to be the best thing, perhaps people
could consider using an ear flush. I flush my dogs' ears out weekly
(presctribed by my vet) since they are prone to yeast infections. I
put the flush into the ear canal and massage for 30 seconds. Their
ears are also plucked regularly to prevent infections.
Once I use the flush I purchased, I am going to switch to a weekly
solution of vinegar and water, 50:50, which has also been approved by
my vet. Either should at least work out the excess debris, I would
think.
